IF you haven't heard, the PC version of much anticipated sequel to COD4, Modern Warfare 2 is being shipped with No dedicated server support. (no mods!) Instead you will have to use P2P servers controlled by IWnet. Infinity Wards own matchmaking system.

This is a huge blow to the PC community! I for one am choosing not to buy this game until they change this system.

Please Voice your protest here,

Sign the petition!

Looks like their not changing a thing! Evil or Very Mad Oh, well. I know of plenty of games coming out this fall that I can spend my money on.

i've signed. i was really excited for this game and this could have been one of the best games of the year. Now its just some meaning less garbage without dedicated servers this game is nothing, and unless they give us the dedicated servers i will not be buying it.

If everyone that signed the petition also doesn't buy the game they would lose over $5,000,000+ you think that would change their mind enough to give us our servers!!

They really screwed this one up Mad

I sure as heck hope no one gives in to buying the game, even if IW stays resolute in their decision... the losses will surely have to deter other game developers from doing the same. God that'd suck if this really is the future of PC gaming. Shocked

Oh, and hey guys. Very Happy I was really looking forward to seeing you all in your new MW2 server Crying or Very sad--nothing unites quite like a new game.

Signed #106405.

They won't make any money off of the PC consumers. Maybe a few hundred thousand brain-dead rednecks will buy it... The sad part about this is; I was really looking forward to the new "SpecOps" gamemode. That's the only thing that grabbed my attention (of course the new perks interested me as well).

For the console crowd, they're in the perfect situation as everything they need is provided by XBL, servers and all.

People will buy MW2 because it's being released at a time of convenience. I mean, there's no other competition this month except for L4D2. When was the last big released for the PC? FEAR2? Did anyone even buy that? My point is, the drought has caused consumers to go crazy for the next game, even if there are known issues--no matter how crucial they are. And, being that COD4 was an incredible hit, they feel safe with buying MW2.

Oh, and hi Eo. (: I think we're all waiting for that special game to knit the crew back together, too. Since IW has let us down, (maybe not, we'll see how far this petition goes) BF:BC2 looks like the game that will get everyone back together. That game will be 12v12, in case anyone was wondering. BF1943 will be like 15 bucks, right? It was only like 120 MSP (like $15?) when it was released as DLC for XBL.

Why can't they run both side by side. If someone wants to setup a server they can. IF someone is a pansy and can't take the heat, they can pair them up on their crappy IW servers. Why not please both peeps?

It's up 20k since my sign... that's pretty good for over-night.

@Breethon, they made the point of running both, but they said it was unnecessary? I can see where they're coming from as a developer... They're giving the majority what they want. Most people wanna get in and play a normal game with people their skill level. People don't wanna take the time to understand the game and play with different mixes of people or join a clan.

Doesn't mean they should scrap the whole idea of dedicated servers altogether, though. I mean, all hope of MW2 getting competitive has just gone out the window.. If they want their game to be a dull fragfest, let them play. Confused

Yep, doesn't look like they're going to budge--didn't suppose they would. What disgusts me is that they're pandering to these console types, and taking away some of the greatest aspects for the PC gamers. There'll be no place to game that clans can call home... it's not about elitists wanting to have their own server where they can rule, it's about having a community where everyone can get to know each other. Not to mention the benefit of a familiar environment, which was a great thing to me as a newcomer to online multi-player (and is something I've had in every online game I've stuck with). And now we're limited with what we're given--no mods, no new maps to keep things fresh and interesting... only perhaps what IW releases, and will probably get charged for (and for that latter bit alone, I say: those *bleepin* *bleep* *bleepers*!)

Dedicated servers and mods--THIS is what PC gamers want... and while I can understand making the game more suited (or what I personally call, "dumbed-down") to the more causual PC gamers (heck, means more profits don't it?), they're not even giving us a CHOICE. We're all forced to play the same way. And the PC gamers who have supported the series since forever, they're the ones being taken away from.

The text in yellow under IW's response here, sums their attitude up pretty well:
http://modernwarfare2forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=1435

Just watch as this game gets pirated all to heck, cause people don't want to pay for an overpriced game on the PC just to miss out on some of the things that have made PC gaming great. I hope all who are disappointed with IW, let the game flop... if they lost enough money, just maybe this won't be repeated with the same series or other games in the future. One can only hope though.

Yeah, it's still set up.

I'm surprised IW truly believes that the majority of server owners want to trample new players that join their server. I'm also surprised that they're so selfish as to get rid of the modding community. That's like saying that their game is 100% flawless. This is clearly not the case..

I found that link to be pretty funny. The TL;DR is harsh, but it accurately depicts IW's views...
